Air India, a Tata Group-owned Indian full-service carrier, announced on Wednesday that it will begin new nonstop flights connecting major Indian cities such as Delhi and Mumbai with six destinations in the United States and Europe.

According to a press release issued by the airline, the airline will launch new flights connecting Mumbai to New York, Paris, and Frankfurt, as well as resume nonstop flights connecting Delhi to Copenhagen, Milan, and Vienna.

With the addition of new international flights, Tata-owned Air India continues to expand its domestic and international flight network.

“This expansion comes as the airline continues to make progress in augmenting its fleet with newly leased aircraft, and the return of existing aircraft to active service,” Air India said in a press note.

Air India New Flights to the US and Europe

The new Mumbai-New York service, which will use B777-200LR aircraft, will begin on February 14, 2023. It will supplement Air India’s existing daily service from Delhi to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and four weekly flights to Newark Liberty Airport.

This brings Air India’s India-US frequency to 47 nonstop flights per week.

Air India will add four weekly flights from Delhi to Milan beginning February 1, 2023, as well as thrice-weekly flights from Delhi to Vienna and Delhi to Copenhagen beginning February 18 and March 1, 2023, respectively. All of these flights will be operated by an Air India B787-8 Dreamliner with 18 Business Class seats and 238 Economy Class seats.

With the resumption of these flights, Air India will serve seven European cities with 79 weekly non-stop flights – 48 to the UK and 31 to Continental Europe.

Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD, Air India, said in a statement.

“A key element of our five-year transformation plan, Vihaan.AI, is to strengthen India’s global network, connecting India’s major cities with even more destinations.”

“The introduction of these new non-stop flights to New York, Milan, Vienna, Copenhagen, Paris and Frankfurt, is another step in that journey, which will accelerate as our aircraft fleet expands. We look forward to welcoming guests and sharing Air India’s warm Indian hospitality with them.”

Premium Economy Class on Long-Haul Flights

Recently, the airline also announced that it will introduce a premium economy class in certain long-haul flights beginning next month, i.e., December 2022.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson also said, “The short-term actions have been to replace carpets, curtains, seat cushions, and covers. To fix defective seats and inflight entertainment systems as fast as supply chains will allow. And where parts are no longer available in the market, to work with the likes of Tata Technologies to design and manufacture parts ourselves.”
