Sharing an update on the travel rules post reopening its borders for international travel, China has issued new guidelines for passengers travelling from India. In a communication, leading Chinese airline has informed that the Embassy of China in India has adjusted the requirements for China-bound travellers from the country.Starting January 8, 2023, Covid-19 has been managed as a Class B infectious disease in China and border control measures have been adjusted accordingly. Notably, China has opened its borders for international outbound travel last week.

According to the new rules notified in the notice by Air China, passengers from India are no longer required to obtain health code from the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General in India before departure. However, travellers are required to take nucleic acid test within 48 hours before flight arrival into China, and can only take flight when the test result is negative. The health code requirement was notified by the Chinese Embassy in November 2022.

China’s reopening comes as surging Covid infections have led the United States, Japan and others to require negative coronavirus tests from Chinese arrivals, discouraging travel. Since regulatory approval from both countries is required to add flights, at a time of US-China trade tensions, short-term capacity could be limited, industry sources said.

Health Declaration to China customs
Passengers need to declare the negative test result to China customs by filling the health declaration for either on Wechat mini-program of China Customs or at the designated website or the China Customs App.

There will be no nucleic acid test when the passengers enter China , and no quarantine for those whose health declaration and entry inspection produce normal results. In case a positive test results or any symptoms such as fever detected by China Customs, passengers will take an antigen test. Those who test positive will need to self-quarantine.
