The Canadian government has launched a new status tracking service to help candidates in four categories, including the Express Entry system, navigate the immigration process. The new service will allow candidates to track the status of their applications and stay up to date on any changes.
What are the new status-tracking services?
The new status trackers will apply to Express Entry candidates in the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). It will also apply to candidates in Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
How to check your Canada Express Entry application status
You have 60 days after being invited to apply to submit your application for permanent residence. You can check the status of your application in your account after you have submitted it. Take the following steps:
Step 1: Visit the Application status tracker website;
Open your web browser and go to the Application status tracker website.
Step 2: Create a new account
If this is your first time checking your application status in the application status tracker, you need to create a new account.
- Click on the “Create an account” button and fill out the required information.
- You will need your unique client identifier (UCI) or client ID, application number, first and last name, date of birth, and place of birth.
- If you are a representative or a designated person, you will also need your party ID, and first and last name.
Step 3: Log in to your account;
After creating your account, log in to your account using your username and password.
Step 4: Check your application status;
Once you are logged in, you can check the status of your application. Status updates will only show up after you receive an acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) letter or email. Until then, you may be able to see the date we got your application, the name of the sponsor, and your contact information.
Step 5: Link your paper application (if applicable);
If you applied on paper, you can link your paper application to your online account. This will allow you to see any updates to your application status.
The Canadian government will send you an email if you need to make changes to your account. If you do not complete the requested updates as soon as possible, your application may be delayed.
Canada’s immigration backlog
Canada has been facing a high backlog of immigration applications, with over 2.1 million applicants in inventory as of January 31, 2023. To address this issue, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been taking steps to improve the speed at which applications are processed.
The department aims to have a backlog of less than 50% across all lines of business by the end of March 2023.
Canada’s immigration goals
In 2022, Canada welcomed a historic number of newcomers, with 431,645 new permanent residents. The country unveiled a goal of seeing 500,000 people arrive each year by 2025 as it seeks to address a critical labour shortage.
The new status-tracking services will help ensure that the immigration process is smoother and more efficient for newcomers.
