Dubai International Airport has launched a new programme that will allow young passengers to stamp their own passports upon arrival.

On Friday, April 21st the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDFRA) announced the new passport platforms for children who aged between 4-12 years old in the arrivals hall of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

The GDFRA believes that this initiative will help to build friendships and make Dubai a “city for everyone”.

Children-Only Passport Counter

This new initiative allows selecting children to stamp their own passports with the guidance of specialized supervisors and experts. These child-friendly passport officers are available to facilitate access, provide support, and answer any questions young travellers may have during the self-stamping process.

“Dubai, a city for everyone… @GDRFADUBAI introduces new passport counters for children aged 4 to 12 years in the arrivals hall of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, giving them the opportunity to stamp their passports by themselves,” said the Dubai Media Office in a Tweet.

Dubai sees surge in international visitors

The new initiative comes as Dubai experiences a surge in the number of international visitors. In the first two months of 2023, Dubai hosted 3.1 million visitors, according to the latest data from Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism.

In January 2023, the number of visitors increased by 50 per cent year-on-year and stood 9 per cent below the pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019, an assessment by Emirates NBD showed. In February 2023, Dubai’s tourism exceeded pre-pandemic levels, with 1.63 million visitors, up 7 per cent from 2019 and 35 per cent year-on-year.

The GDFRA’s new initiative is part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to enhance the airport experience for passengers, particularly young travellers. By allowing children to stamp their own passports, the GDFRA hopes to make the process more interactive and enjoyable, while also promoting Dubai as a welcoming and friendly destination.
