Madhya Pradesh is set to have two new airports for commercial flights soon, as MoU has been signed between state government and officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI).At present there are five airports in the state — in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Khajuraho.
Director of Bhopal airport, Ram Jee Awasthi said that an O&M and CNS/ATM contract was signed between the state government and the Airport Authority of India for upgradation and development of the Datia airstrip and operation of the airport as per development and standards.
The MoU was signed by Chandramouli Shukla, on behalf of MP government, N V Subbarayadu, executive director on behalf of MP aviation and Airports Authority of India and Swaminathan, general manager (ATM/ATS) Delhi. As per MoU, Airport Authority of India will develop Datia airstrip and necessary arrangements for air traffic operation and necessary facilities for passengers will be provided as per aviation norms. Notably, Datia – Bhopal and Datia – Khajuraho route by Big Charter under flight 4.2, commercial flight of 19-seater aircraft is likely to be started. For this airport is being developed by airport authority.
An MOU was also signed between the government of Madhya Pradesh and the Airport Authority of India for development/upgradation and operation/maintenance of Rewa airport in accordance with civil aviation standards. The MoU was signed by Chandramouli Shukla, commissioner of aviation in Madhya Pradesh and Ram Jee Awasthi, airport director of AAI, on behalf of the Airports Authority of India. An MoU was signed for development in a phased manner and for handing over necessary arrangements for air traffic operations and providing necessary facilities to passengers as per aviation norms.
“After handing over the necessary land, the airport will be developed for ATR 72 and VFR/IFR operations,” said Awasthi. Notably, work for the first phase started in February after handing over the present airstrip. In this phase, after getting VFR and land for 19-seater, it will be developed for necessary facilities for large aircraft and night operations.
